Over time, Polivac pad holders wear down, causing sanding disks to slip off - and that can be frustrating during any sanding or polishing job. Fortunately, there’s a simple fix: by using EPO-HI® GP Clear Epoxy and Ceramic, you can glue a 40 grit sanding disc (and optionally a polishing pad) to your pad holder and bring it back to life.

Here’s how to do it in eight easy steps.

Step 1: Prep the Pad

Remove the hook and loop from the Polivac pad holder. Give it a quick clean with a rag and some water, then let it dry. Make sure there’s minimal dust or moisture left on the surface.

Step 2: Gather Your Materials

While the pad holder is drying, collect everything you need:

  • 400 mL EPO-HI® GP Clear Epoxy Resin
  • 200 mL EPO-HI® GP Clear Epoxy Hardener
  • 600 mL 200C Ceramic Filler
  • 40 grit sanding disc
  • Optional: white or red polishing pad

Step 3: Mix the Glue

Combine the clear epoxy resin and hardener first. Then add an equal amount of ceramic filler and mix thoroughly until you have a smooth, consistent epoxy glue.

Step 4: Apply the Epoxy to the Sanding Disk

Place the 40 grit sanding disc on a flat surface with the fabric side facing up. Spread the epoxy glue evenly over the surface until fully covered.

Step 5: Glue the Polishing Pad

If you’re using a polishing pad, place it on top of the sanding disc and apply extra epoxy on the top side to ensure a strong bond.

Step 6: Attach the Pad Holder

Coat the hook and loop side of the pad holder with epoxy and carefully place it on top of the polishing pad, ensuring the hook and loop faces down toward the sanding disk and polishing pad.

Step 7: Cure and Cut

Allow the epoxy glue to cure fully - typically 24 to 48 hours. Once hardened, use a sharp blade to cut the centre of both the polishing pad and sanding disc to match the size of the pad holder’s hole.

Step 8: Reassemble and Enjoy

Your pad holder is now restored! Place it back onto the Polivac and lock it in. The glued 40 grit sanding disk now acts as the hook and loop, allowing you to use polishing pads and sanding disks without them slipping off.

Pro Tip: After extended use, the 40 grit sanding disk may lose its hook and loop function. Simply repeat the above steps, skipping step five, by gluing a new 40 grit disk directly on top of the old one.

With this simple eight step process, you can extend the life of your Polivac pad holder and keep your sanding and polishing workflow smooth and hassle-free.
