When it comes to flooring, safety is just as important as design. Whether it’s a driveway, a commercial kitchen, or a high traffic industrial space, slip resistance plays a big role in meeting both the Australian Building Code and Australian Standards.

At APC, we offer five different slip resistant mediums: Quartz, Glass, Dimple, Silica Sand, and Aluminium Oxide. Each one offers a different level of grip, taking flooring systems from a P1 through to a P5 slip rating. Let’s take a closer look at the options.

Quartz

Quartz is one of the most durable and long-lasting options available. Used in our Quartz Shield System, it comes in two grains: Quartz 40 and Quartz 25.

  • Quartz 40 is better suited to residential applications like driveways and pool surrounds.
  • Quartz 25 is designed for commercial and industrial environments, such as kitchens and food manufacturing facilities

Another benefit of Quartz is its decorative appeal, with a wide range of colour options to choose from.

Glass

Glass shards provide a subtle slip resistant finish and can be broadcast with epoxy, urethane, or sealer systems. It’s a versatile choice if you’re after moderate slip resistance without changing the look of the floor too much.

Dimple

Dimple is a fine white powder that forms tiny spheres when mixed into the coating. It creates a light slip resistant texture and is a great choice for spaces that need a subtle lift in grip without going too heavy on texture.

Silica Sand

Silica Sand delivers strong slip resistance and is often used within our Matrix Systems. It’s a reliable choice when safety and traction are a priority, particularly in commercial or industrial applications.

Aluminium Oxide

For the toughest environments, Aluminium Oxide is one of the hardest and longest-lasting options. It can be broadcast into a wide range of systems and is available in white or brown. White is particularly useful for clear coatings, as it blends in more subtly. Interestingly, Aluminium Oxide is also the same material commonly used in sandpaper, which shows just how tough it really is.

Which One Should You Choose?

The best additive for your project will depend on the space, its use and the slip rating required. From decorative Quartz through to heavy duty Aluminium Oxide, APC has a slip resistant solution to suit every environment.

All of our systems are seamless, hard wearing and Australian Made, designed to perform in residential, commercial and industrial spaces alike.
